Lack Of Information Security Training And Skills To Protect Network Security Could Cost Organizations Millions - Computers - Security

Massive data breaches could occur if organizations overlook their network security. The Epsilon breach may have affected 75 companies, or 3% of Epsilon's customers, and the estimated number of affected e-mails in the Epsilon breach is at 60 million.

An e-mail marketing services company, Epsilon's recent data breach could cost the company as much as $4 billion according to a worst-case scenario outlined in a recent report.

According to CyberFactors, given that the compromised e-mail addresses could be used by phishers to gain access to sites that contain consumers' personal information, the total cost of the Epsilon breach including forensic audits and monitoring, fines, litigation and lost business for provider and customers could eventually run as high as $3 billion to $4 billion.

Regina Clark, Research and Analytics Director for CyberFactors, stated that "While the attractiveness of the cloud model is hard to refute, the economics of business risk for cloud providers and their customers can no longer be ignored". She added, "With the cost of technology failures rising at an accelerated rate, the Epsilon event suggests a much more profound financial risk environment is now upon us. Cloud companies would be wise to think more like banks, insurance companies and hedge funds, and not just aggregators of the world's precious data and technology dependencies."

So far, the largest data breaches include up to 130 million credit card numbers stolen from Heartland Payment System in 2008, up to 100 million accounts from retailer TJX in 2005 and 2006, and more than 4.2 million credit and debit card numbers from the grocery chain Hannaford Bros. in 2008.

Meanwhile, Sony announced on April 26 that information from 77 million PlayStation Network user accounts could have been stolen, and added another 25 million compromised accounts to the list on May 2. The newly added accounts are on its online multiplayer division, Sony Online Entertainment (SOE). Experts say hackers stole personal data, including credit and debit card information, in a complex attack that could cost Sony and credit card issuers $1 to $2 billion.

The recent data breaches have also had an impact on its customer's loyalty and satisfaction. "The point is you took our money and didn't secure our credit card and personal data. I'm not even sure how you can possibly make up for that," said a post by a user under the name rawstory'.

Some users said they would be unwilling to register their credit card details in the future. A PlayStation user under the name leucoplast' said, "Personally, I am never placing my CC (credit card) info in your hands again, and if I ever buy anything off the PSN (PlayStation Network) it will be through pre-paid cards."

Sony shares fell as much as 5 percent a few days ago as concerns mounted about the impact of the breach. Analysts said the leak would weigh on investor sentiment. "At minimum, having to suspend the service, fix its problems and deal with the aftermath, looks set to cost (Sony) tens of billions of yen," said analyst Nobuo Kurahashi of Mizuho Investors Securities.

These report findings clearly point out that online attacks are becoming more common these days. The companies and organizations need to implement robust information security initiatives, including having a proficiently skilled IT security workforce, in order to avoid cyber attacks and security breaches. IT security professionals can increase their information security knowledge and skills by embarking on advanced and highly technical training programs. EC-Council has launched the Center of Advanced Security Training (CAST) to address the deficiency of technically proficient information security professionals.

CAST will provide advanced technical security training covering topics such as advanced penetration testing training, Digital Mobile Forensics, Cryptography, Advanced Network Defense, and advanced application security training, among others. These highly sought after and lab-intensive Information Security training courses will be offered at all EC-Council-hosted conferences and events, and through specially selected authorized training centres.

Governments and Businesses Pool Resources to Create International Cyber Security Alliance - Computers - Security

Countries across the world are dealing with the menace of cybercrime. The all-pervasive nature and the possibility to commit Internet crime from any part of the world poses lot of challenges for counter crime agencies. Different definitions and lack of homogenous laws across various countries further complicates the fight against cybercrime. The Council of European Convention on Cybercrime is only major law that has wider acceptance. However, only 18 countries have ratified the Convention, and 25 other signatories are yet to ratify. Cybercriminals take advantage of the diversity of the laws and lack of effective coordination between different countries to perpetrate crime from any part of the world. The evolvement of attack techniques and easily available attack tools has also helped offenders in their illegal pursuit.

Recently, United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and United Kingdom (U.K) came together to support a business-led International Cyber Security Protection Alliance (ICSPA) at Buckinghamshire, U.K. The international agency comprises of various national and multinational companies, which include Cassidian, Transactis, Core Security Technologies, McAfee, Shop Direct Group (SDG), Trend Micro, Article 10, A and R Edelman and Yodel. The alliance seeks to assist both domestic and international counter crime agencies both in terms of expertise as well as funding. Essentially, the alliance will pool funding from governments and expertise from the business sector to help counter crime agencies to fight the sophisticated threats in the cyberspace. To begin with, the alliance will coordinate with EUROPOL, the European law enforcement agency. Mr. David Blunkett, former British Home Secretary, and current Member of Parliament (MP) is the chairman of the alliance. The alliance repo rtedly will also make investments in training and facilitate global exchange of cyber security expertise.

While cybercrime is growing in sophistication and frequency, counter crime agencies face constraints terms of human capital and financial resources. Growing risk profile of the IT environment has resulted in increased demand for professionals qualified in computer forensics, incident management, masters of security science, penetration testing and computer science degree among others. In the recent times, cyber-attackers have been aggressively targeting government bodies and business organizations resulting in greater number of data breach incidents. Greater coordination and timely sharing of information is crucial to combat the ever evolving threat of cybercrime. The alliance expects addition to the sponsors and partners in future.

Cyber security awareness is also crucial to deal with the persistent threats in the cyberspace. E-learning and online degree programs may help improve cyber security practices among home Internet users and working professionals. Cybercrime is growing at an alarming rate and the recent wave of cyber-attacks has again reinforced the need for greater cooperation and coordination among different nation states. Counter crime professionals may take advantage of online university degree programs and enhance their awareness of security threats and improve capabilities to combat Internet based crime.

Countries must also work and cooperate to bring uniformity in cybercrime laws across the world. Uniformity of laws and greater coordination between different intra and inter-country counter crime agencies is crucial to bring the perpetrators of cybercrime to justice.

United States Embraces New Cyber security Strategy - Computers - Security

Threats in the cyber space have evolved over a period of time from intrusions to denial-of-service-attacks and attacks on industrial installations. The WikiLeaks exposure and the attacks by the Anonymous group on websites of PayPal, MasterCard, Amazon, Egyptian and Tunisian government and security firm HBGary Federal has highlighted the severity of the cyber threats. Cybercriminals may launch more destructive attacks in the near future as sophisticated attack toolkits are easily available. Terrorist organizations may take advantage of the emerging scenario to use cyberspace for perpetrating heinous crimes. Cyber-attacks on critical infrastructural facilities may cripple the economy of a country.

To deal with the vibrant threats in the cyber space, the U.S Department of Defense (DoD) has developed a new Cyber 3.0 strategy. The strategy has five pillars, which recognize the need for creating a force of cybercommandos, deployment of active defenses on military networks, steps to safeguard critical infrastructural facilities, evolving collective defense strategies with allies, and creating synergies between technological and human resources. Online computer training and cyber security training programs may help in creating secure IT work culture and ensure countrys supremacy in the cyber space. The threats in the cyber space require proactive action and intervention. The U.S DoD also plans to increase the number of military units having dedicated cyber missions. Inclusion of cyber security experts in military units is crucial to safeguard military networks from intrusion attempts by organized crime groups, terrorist organizations and rival intelligence agencies.

The country needs a strong force of cyber security experts such as network administrators, system administrators, ethical hacker certified personnel, security auditors and penetration testers. The department plans to expand the IT exchange program, which allows sharing of cyber security professionals between the government and the Industry.

U.S faces shortage of cyber security professionals. Government departments and business organizations must encourage IT employees to undertake security certification programs to update their technical skills and know-how.

The DoD recognizes the importance of improving cyber security and has sought $500 million to encourage companies to conduct research in new technologies such as cloud computing and encrypted data processing. Effective coordination between public and private companies is crucial to improve cyber security infrastructure. The government will seek new technologies from the industry to safeguard crucial networks from intrusions and cyber espionage.

Cybercriminals take advantage of heterogeneity in cyber laws across countries. Therefore, countries must collaborate with other countries to devise collective defense strategies and reach international agreements on cybercrime prevention.

How to Promote Your Network Marketing MLM Home Business on Steroids!

No matter what you promote you're going to have to have a constant stream of fresh targeted traffic going to your website. From here you going to have to learn how to generate your own leads because if you haven't noticed buying your own leads rarely work. I have been down this road before.

I have bought many leads that were useless and never picked up my phone calls when I tried to call them. Or for the most part they were very unresponsive and actually yelled at me for contacting them. The Internet is a great place to generate leads without having to fear the face-to-face confrontation that most network marketers deal with on a daily basis.

One of the strongest ways that I promote my opportunity and myself would be through article marketing. Article marketing is writing articles and putting them on various article directories. This is great because it is free. Understand most network marketers don't have a huge advertising budget so this is a burden off of their shoulders.

Do you have a lot of money to advertise?

If not article marketing maybe the best thing for you because it gives you the opportunity to help someone solve their problems, give them a couple of business tips and insight which will push them to visit your website. Not everyone will visit your website but that does not matter, what matters is the amount of article that you are distributing daily. The more articles you distribute the more visitors you will get to your site it just make sense.

After a couple short months I have written over a thousand articles because it works. There is nothing better in my opinion than writing a bunch of article because on the internet...content is king!

The phrase that states content is king holds very true as I have seen throughout the months. All I know is that I will continue writing articles because it generates targeted traffic and fresh leads for my business and I suggest if you want the same results you begin to do it as well.

Do you want to learn more about how I run my network marketing business online? I have just completed a brand new marketing system.

You can see itFREE here -http://www.WorkInYourUnderwearSystem.info

Omar Negron has been involved in network marketing since the ripe age of 18. He is the Co-Creator of The Work In Your Underwear System, which is expanding worldwide.

Those who succeed in multi level marketing do notion up even though they are experiencing difficulties. In reality, in business there will be a lot of time you will encounter difficulties.
